Imperata root — 白茅根 (Bai Mao Gen), also known as woolly grass root or cogon grass root — is a dried root ingredient widely used in Cantonese soups and broths. It has a mild, naturally light sweetness and is typically added to everyday soups to give the broth a clean, refreshing quality. It pairs naturally with kudzu root and coix seeds, and is often included in carrot and corn broths for a light, sweet flavour.
This Xianyitang pack contains 100% dried imperata root, produced under an ISO 9001-certified quality management system. Rinse thoroughly before use. Add to soups and broths at the start of cooking and simmer with meat and other ingredients for 1–2 hours.
Typical uses: Cantonese soups and broths, light everyday broths, everyday pantry use.
Goes well with: Pork ribs, carrot, corn, kudzu root (葛根), coix seeds (薏米), Chinese yam (山藥), white radish (白蘿蔔).
