The Xianyitang 茅根竹蔗湯 (Máo Gēn Zhú Zhè Tāng) — Sugarcane and Imperata Root Soup — is a classic Cantonese herbal soup blend combining sugarcane (甘蔗), dried carrot (胡蘿蔔乾), imperata root (白茅根) and kudzu root (葛根). It produces a light, naturally sweet, refreshing broth that is particularly popular as a summer soup. The sugarcane and carrot provide natural sweetness, while the imperata root (also known as white cogon grass root) and kudzu root add a clean, mild herbal note.
Produced under an ISO 9001-certified quality management system. Rinse all ingredients thoroughly and soak in warm water for 15–30 minutes before use. Simmer with pork ribs or pork bones until fully cooked through. This soup is also commonly prepared as a clear broth without meat for a lighter result.
Typical uses: Cantonese sugarcane and imperata root pork rib soup, refreshing summer herbal broth, light everyday soup.
Goes well with: Pork ribs, pork bones, lean pork, fresh ginger, rock sugar (for a slightly sweeter broth).
Each pack is pre-portioned for convenience. Rinse the ingredients, add to a pot with your chosen meat and approximately 1.5 litres of cold water, bring to the boil, then reduce to a simmer for 1–2 hours. Season lightly before serving. Serves 2–4.
