Kudzu root — 葛根 (Ge Gen), also known as pueraria root — is a dried root ingredient widely used in Cantonese home cooking, particularly in soups and broths. It has a mild, slightly starchy flavour that blends naturally with other soup ingredients, and is especially well suited to long-simmered soups with pork ribs or chicken. It is also sometimes combined with carrots and corn for a classic everyday Cantonese broth.
This Xianyitang pack contains 100% dried kudzu root, produced under an ISO 9001-certified quality management system. Rinse thoroughly before use. Add to soups and broths at the start of cooking and simmer with meat and other ingredients for 1–2 hours.
Typical uses: Chinese soups and broths, Cantonese-style slow-cooked soups, everyday pantry use.
Goes well with: Pork ribs, chicken, carrot, corn, red dates (大棗), coix seeds (薏米), imperata root (白茅根).
