Star anise — 八角 (Ba Jiao), or 八角 (Ba Jiao Hui Xiang) — is one of the most iconic spices in Chinese cooking. Its distinctive sweet, liquorice-like aroma is a defining feature of red-cooked pork (紅燒肉), braised and slow-cooked meat dishes, Chinese five-spice powder, and a wide range of soups and broths. It is used across many Chinese regional cuisines and is a foundational pantry spice.
This Xianyitang pack contains 100% dried star anise, manufactured under an ISO 9001:2015-certified quality management system. Use whole pods or lightly crack to release more aroma. Add at the start of braising or slow-cooking, use in soups and broths, or grind as part of a spice blend. Keep sealed after opening to prevent aroma transfer.
Typical uses: Red-cooked and braised meat (pork, beef, lamb), Chinese soups and broths, five-spice blends, marinades, slow-cooked recipes.
Goes well with: Cinnamon (桂皮), Sichuan peppercorn (花椒), cloves (丁香), fennel seeds (小茴香), ginger, garlic, soy sauce, rock sugar.
