Cumin seeds — 孜然 (Zī Rán) — are a warm, aromatic spice with a distinctive earthy fragrance. Widely associated with Northwest Chinese and Xinjiang cuisine, they are the defining spice in cumin lamb (孜然羊肉) and cumin beef, and are also used in stir-fries, spice blends and barbecue seasonings.
This Xianyitang pack contains 100% dried cumin seeds, manufactured under an ISO 9001:2015-certified quality management system. Add whole seeds to hot oil at the start of cooking to release their aroma, or lightly toast and grind for use in spice blends and dry rubs.
Typical uses: Cumin lamb (孜然羊肉), cumin beef stir-fry, Xinjiang-style dishes, spice blends, dry rubs and barbecue seasonings.
Goes well with: Lamb, beef, garlic, chilli, Sichuan pepper (花椒), spring onion.
