Red beans — 紅豆 (Hong Dou) — are plump, round dried beans widely used across Chinese and East Asian cooking. They are a staple in sweet soups (tong sui), red bean paste, desserts and everyday recipes. Their mild, naturally sweet and lightly beany flavour makes them well suited to both sweet and savoury applications.
In everyday Chinese grocery use, 紅豆 (Hong Dou) usually refers to rounder red beans used for sweet soups and red bean paste, while 赤小豆 (Chi Xiao Dou) is slimmer and more often used in Chinese soups and pantry recipes. For the slimmer variety, see our Dried Red Adzuki Beans (赤小豆) 500g.
This Xianyitang pack contains 100% dried red beans, produced under an ISO 9001-certified quality management system. Rinse thoroughly and soak in water for 1–2 hours before use. Cook into sweet soups and desserts, use to make red bean paste, or add to congee and everyday recipes.
Typical uses: Sweet soups and desserts (tong sui), red bean paste, congee and rice dishes, everyday pantry use.
Goes well with: Coix seeds (薏米), lily bulb (百合), lotus seeds, poria (茯苓), dried longan (桂圓), pandan leaf, coconut milk, rock sugar.
